With banjo, mandolin, guitar, washboard and more, New York State’s premier jug band fuses the ragtime sounds of the 1920s with the bluegrass edge of the ’40s; mines the manic energy of ’60s folk revival acts; and adds a contemporary comic sensibility all its own. With a cumulative 130 years in the music business, The Hambones – John Kouri (Ringmaster General, lead vocalist & harmonica), Scott Milch (drums, vocals), John Pizzacarola (guitar, vocals), and Steve Soltow (bass, vocals) – perform a retrospective of what is arguably Bob Dylan’s greatest album, “Blood on the Tracks”, in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of its release and also his 75th birthday. Initially critically disparaged, the album has subsequently been acclaimed as one of Dylan’s finest; Rolling Stone ranks “Blood on the Tracks” as #16 on its list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The Hambones present an overview of the album’s themes and historical relevance to the American Songbook and perform all the tracks in song order as per its original release on Columbia Records. Bob Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks” will be presented for one night only, Saturday July 9th, at 7:30pm in the Bridge Street Theatre Speakeasy, 44 West Bridge Street in Catskill. Tickets are $15, $10 for patrons age 21 and under, and go on sale at the door one half hour prior to the performance.

Hearts Content Ensemble

Musicians from the Catskill Chamber Orchestra – Margo Byron (flute), Thomas Konow (violin), Gail LeSuer (clarinet), Jonathan Byron-Woodin (cello), Lory Frankel (oboe), and David Woodin (violin, viola) – perform works by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Ravel, Albeniz, and Mozart. Sunday July 10 at 3:00pm in the Bridge Street Theatre Speakeasy, 44 West Bridge Street in Catskill. All tickets are $10 and go on sale at the door one half hour prior to the performance.

Bottleneck Guitar Virtuoso

Whether live or in the studio, bottleneck guitarist Pete Wagula lays glass on strings. Bitten by the guitar bug in 5th grade, he favors a 1930 National, Dobro, Martin acoustic or just about any electric. For this solo instrumental performance, Pete will create live loops, filling the intimate Bridge Street Theatre Speakeasy with sound and myriad imageries as the backdrop for his bottleneck guitar. One night only, Saturday July 16, at 7:30pm, 44 West Bridge Street in the Village of Catskill. Catch local boy Jon B. Woodin, a brilliant young singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose work has been compared to that of James Taylor, Jim Croce, and Gordon Lightfoot, on Sunday afternoon July 17th at 3:00pm in the Bridge Street Theatre Speakeasy.

Whether working every angle on the court or navigating the field of life, former pro basketball player Terri Mateer has taken plenty of hits — but that hasn’t diminished her drive to score. Performed with an athlete’s grace and confidence (but none of the indulgent swagger), the 6’ 1” Mateer’s autobiographical one-woman show “A Kind Shot” has plenty of insider anecdotes and famous names that will appeal to fans of street, college, and pro sports. Besides her experience in these worlds, Mateer also worked as a model, a stripper, and a designer. Raised by a single hippie mom and an African American surrogate father, and mentored by numerous others, she credits them with giving her the fortitude to confront sexual abuse and harassment. Fortunately, it seems there’s a happy ending for this girl who never quite knew who she was. “A Kind Shot” is a fresh, brave, daring take on the one-woman show. Bridge Street Theatre Speakeasy, 44 W. Terri Mateer’s autobiographical one-woman show is like nothing ever seen. It’s a personal account of one woman’s unconventional journey towards being a basketball star via modeling, stripping, becoming a drag queen, and a whirlwind of a crazy past. 6’1″ Terri tells us her story, basketball in hand, in a comfortable, intimate setting. A hippie mother, no father, casual drug use: at first, the story is simple and somewhat funny, until she begins to unfold the more perverse parts of her life, beginning when she hadn’t even reached middle school. She takes us all the way through her childhood, and into her adulthood, which luckily results in a happy ending, something the viewer longs for this girl in the story who never really knew who she was. It’s truly a fresh, brave, daring take on the one-woman show.

Renowned faculty and international rising young artists from the Catskill High Peaks Festival fill Bridge Street Theatre’s newly refurbished performance space with an exuberant display of virtuosity and talent. Various chamber music combinations and crossover repertoire include cello chorus, solo and duo piano, quartets, sextets, and the High Peaks Chamber orchestra in works by J. S. Bach, Grieg, Chopin, Dvorak, Gershwin and more.

Music from High Peaks has been heard at the Olana Estate, the Norman Rockwell Museum, The Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville, the Doctorow PAC in Hunter, Basilica Hudson, the Carey Center for Global Good, and, this summer, at the Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill.
The Catskill High Peaks Festival is a performing and teaching summer institute bringing together renowned musicians, pedagogues and exceptionally gifted international students. It is held in the majestic Northern Catskill Mountains, at the Carey Institute for Global Good in Rensselaerville, NY, surrounded by the iconic scenery – mountain peaks, waterfalls and charming hamlets – that inspired the Hudson River School painters, and that continues to inspire generations of artists, musicians and writers. The intimate scale and highest level of talent make possible an invigorating ten days of discovery, exploration, bonding, and growth. The festival has an all-inclusive atmosphere, fostering camaraderie and cross-cultural exchange and understanding. The faculty is similarly international. In past summers, the music has focused on traditions ranging from Latin American tango to Japanese ceremonial drums to the heritage of Jazz and improvisation in addition to the classical canon. Central to the festival’s mission are performance opportunities for young artists on the cusp of their careers. Faculty and guest performers have included the most respected classical musicians of our time: guitarist Eliot Fisk; violinists Shmuel Ashkenasi, Ara Gergorian, Stefan Milenkovich, Elmar Oliveira, and Peter Zazofsky; pianists James Tocco, Michael Chertock, and Vassily Primakov; vocalists Mischa Bouvier, Lucille Beer, and Jennifer Rivera; and cellist Yehuda Hanani.

“The exciting mix of established and revered performers and artists of tomorrow joining to present some of the gems of chamber music makes for an irresistible experience,” says Artistic Director Yehuda Hanani. “This summer we focus on the magic of Bach and his legacy, but there will magic in all aspects of the conjunction of young talent, great repertoire, and brilliant veteran performers.”

“Music from High Peaks” will be one of the first events to be presented in Bridge Street Theatre’s newly-renovated mainstage space, conversion of which was made possible by a generous grant from New York State’s Division of Homes and Community Renewal and through private donations. The theatre is a non-profit corporation which purchased the old Curtron factory building at 44 West Bridge Street in Catskill, NY in late 2013 and has re-purposed it as an intimate performing arts center for Greene County, the Hudson Valley region, and beyond. It currently produces a full season of innovative theatrical productions and a regular cabaret series, as well as presenting an eclectic mix of imported theatre, music, magic, visual arts, screenings, community events, and more in the three separate spaces that make up the complex.

Backstage, Judy dishes the dirt on her MGM co-stars, her husbands, and much, much more. Flo Hayle directs Kathleen Devine (ALL MY CHILDREN, SEARCH FOR TOMORROW) and Caedmon Holland (LUCKY LINDY) in this wickedly witty and touching trip down the yellow brick road of Judy’s incredible life.

KATHLEEN DEVINE (Judy) started her life in NYC by winning an ABC nationwide talent scholarship and receiving classical acting training at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She has appeared in starring roles on “One Life to Live” (Pamela Shepard), and “Search for Tomorrow” (Faye Chandler) and has also been seen on “As the World Turns”, “Ryan’s Hope”, “All My Children”, and other soaps. Kathleen was featured as Mrs. Molloy in the Broadway National tour of HELLO, DOLLY! with Yvonne DeCarlo and has also toured with SWEET CHARITY, APPLAUSE, MY FAIR LADY, and THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN. Her films include “The Brass Ring” and “The Night They Robbed Big Bertha’s”, as well as independent films like “Tug”, “Classified Rebel” and “Picking up the Pieces”. Off-Broadway performances include VINCENT, RAPPACCINI’S DAUGHTER, and THE MOST HAPPY FELLA. In this region, she has performed in SONDHEIM: BEAUTIFUL WOMEN, COMPANY, ONE MORE TOMORROW, SIGNIFICANT OTHERS, and her cabaret, SIMPLY DEVINE, which debuted at Fort Salem and is headed for a new future in Manhattan. This summer she’ll be co-directing and playing Lucy in YOU’RE AN OLD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN at Fort Salem Theatre as well as the iconic Judy Garland at Bridge Street Theatre.

He continued with this until the age of 14 when, during his high school years, he started focusing more on film. At 19, Caedmon transferred to the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. While there, he was part of the only Western Theater school performance in the world to be invited to participate in the First International Asian Theater Festival in 2010. Caedmon graduated UNM with a BA in Theater in December of 2014. Since then, he’s been back home in upstate NY, performing locally with Bridge Street Theatre in LUCKY LINDY and Kaaterskill Actors Theater in CHRISTMAS IN JULY among others, and trying to build his resume for a move to NYC or LA.

FLO HAYLE (Director). Flo Hayle has participated in all aspects of theatre throughout her career. An accomplished and beloved cabaret singer, she has known many of the greats including Elaine Stritch, Liza Minnelli and Hildegarde. She has appeared in dozens of plays and musicals including SOPHIE by Steve Allen and, more recently, SENIOR MOMENTS at the Fort Salem Theatre. She has been seen in TV commercials for Total Cereal and Volkswagen, among others. As a director and producer, she was producing off-Broadway long before there was anything known as “off-Broadway”, was casting director for Muriel Cigars, Coppertone, and Maybelline, and director of PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE at The Ghent Playhouse. Flo hosts a weekly radio interview show called “Arts Alive” on 98.5FM and 93.5FM.

BILLY VAN ZANDT (Playwright) is a writer, director, producer, actor, and comedian. After starring in a series of his own plays, Billy made his feature film debut in “Jaws 2”. The success of his comedies (written with partner Jane Milmore) brought him to the attention of Bob Newhart, who hired him as a writer for the acclaimed Newhart television series. A career lasting three decades of producing and writing for television ensued. Between TV assignments, Billy produces, co-writes and stars in his stage plays, including Off-Broadway’s acclaimed YOU’VE GOT HATE MAIL, SILENT LAUGHTER, DROP DEAD! and THE PROPERTY KNOWN AS GARLAND (starring Adrienne Barbeau). Billy’s biggest career thrill was acting alongside his idol Lucille Ball on her final television series. A year after Lucy’s passing, Billy and Jane were nominated for an Emmy for writing and producing a television special where they unveiled the original pilot episode of “I Love Lucy”. They won both People’s Choice and NAACP Image Awards for their work on the Martin Lawrence comedy “Martin” and a Prism Multi-Cultural Award for TV’s “The Hughleys”. Billy lives in New Jersey and California.
