“It’s an open secret that most of the truly exciting and adventurous summer theater takes place in the second stages of the major theater festivals … A better kept secret is that this type of exciting theater goes on regularly at Bridge Street Theater in Catskill. They do it 12 months a year and for about a third of the ticket price.” Bob Goepfert, WAMC Radio

What an incredible sixth season we’re having at Bridge Street Theatre:

Two world premiere productions, David Zellnik’s THE LETTERS and Michelle Carter’s BETTER, were major hits with critics and audiences alike; Jen Silverman’s darkly hilarious contemporary comedy THE MOORS featured a spectacular performance by Molly Parker Myers; our first ever musical, THE SHAGGS: PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD, included wonderful performances by five Catskill High School students acting alongside three professionals; and audience favorites Steven Patterson and Roxanne Fay presented highly praised solo performances based on characters from Shakespeare in “…AND EVERY TALE CONDEMNS ME FOR A VILLAIN.”

Bridge Street’s mainstage also hosted appearances by the legendary Charles Busch as Lucille Ball, the indomitable Flo Hayle in her one-woman cabaret, Francesca Avani’s ever-popular Bridge Street Belly Dance, free summer family movies, and so much more.

Our 2019 Subscription Season comes to a close with a rarely seen American classic, Frank D. Gilroy’s THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES directed by Flo Hayle.  And we end the year with three family-friendly shows during the month of November, RIVER OF DREAMS by Hudson Talbott with music by Frank Cuthbert, JAMOT, a musical by Sandra Dutton and Scott Petito, and PACKRAT, a fabulous puppet extravaganza from Concrete Temple Theatre.

There isn’t another theatre in the region that can boast the kind of exciting and eclectic programming we produce.

But we couldn’t do it without you! We are a theater committed to paying all the performers, designers and directors who work with us, and subscriptions and box-office income only support a portion of our expenses. Our goal is to raise the $50,000 we need to complete our fiscal year in the black, keep our ticket prices affordable, and plan for the 2020 season.

That the world premiere of a quality play likely due for future acclaim would happen in a five-year-old, 84-seat theater in Catskill ought to be a source of pride for the company, the village and our region.” Steve Barnes, Albany Times Union

If you love new theater, you should absolutely make the trip to Catskill and check out this fantastic gem of a theater John Sowle and Steven Patterson have created. We try and catch everything they do because most of the stuff you see there you won’t find anywhere else… An exhilarating discovery, unlike anything you’ve seen recently!” Patrick White on Facebook

“Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill is home to performances that can’t be found anywhere else. Owners John Sowle and Steven Patterson—a powerhouse couple who have been involved in theater for decades—pride themselves on providing a mecca for unique and off-beat performances that keep the audience entertained and on their toes.” Jessica Porter, Catskill Made.
